Powhite Park Orienteering

Set out after getting the grass cut Saturday morning for an afternoon of orienteering at Powhite Park in Richmond Va. Powhite Park is a small 100 area park but has some of the most narrow twisty singletrack located in the city. This little park has about everything that a mountain biker is looking for. Fast flowing singletrack, hill climbs, bermed turns, and a half-pipe called "The Buzz".

The course was a traditional orienteering course with white, yellow, orange courses set on it.

This was the map of the white course

This was the map of the orange course

My daughter has an interest in the sport so we when out to do the beginner course first with her being the lead and working on finding her controls

After a short break we headed out on the orange course. I had to stick to the trails and we only picked up 13 out of 19 controls. The day was becoming a long and we were running out of time.

Central Virginia Orienteering Club did a great job setting this event up. I will be sure to make the next event in a couple of weeks.

Ashland Clunker Cruise 2015

Racing and epic rides is not what the Ashland Clunker Cruise is about. It's just about riding and having fun. This was a fun and family friendly ride around the historic town of Ashland Virginia. I am a couple weeks late posting to the blog but better late than never.

Our host for the event Joel Street

Riders gathered in the parking lot of the towns library

There were close to 300 riders for this open invitation cruise. The route was a lazy cruise around the town which took is about a hour. We did have to wait for the train..

We ended up back a Joel's house for pizza and fellowship. I hope to be able to catch next years Clunker Cruise. Now I will leave you with some of the pictures I took.

Try riding with a bullet-proof vest and a duty belt!
